Electrical problem
2003 Ford Explorer V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

A few months ago my cruise control began to intermittently not engage and had gotten more frequent until recently it would not engage at all. I replaced the cruise control switch on the master cylinder and now the cruise control appears to engage, set and disengage fine; but, there is another problem.

When the cruise control is set the vehicle gradually, but continuously, increases speed on slight downgrades in the road and will decrease and hold at the set speed on upgrades. Disengaging the cruise control works at any time. The increase in speed depends on the steepness and duration of the downgrade, but increased by more than 10 mph on a small downgrade before I disengaged the cruise control.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Hi rdbro,

Thank you for the donation.

The cruise control system is equiped with a self-diagnostic. Get a scan done to see if any trouble codes are stored.

Let me know the EXACT trouble coee if any found.

I drove my explorer last night and this morning and guess what! The cruise control worked perfectly.

As you suggested, I will get a scan tool and check for any codes and let you know.

Thank you for your help,
Ray Brose
