2003 Explorer ABS light

I have an 03 Explorer XLT 4 door. The ABS light came on while I was driving over tthe weekend. Events, I went to apply the brakes as the peddle was stiff but not stopping I released the peadle and re applied the brakes as the vehicle responded with normal breaking but the ABS light is now on. I have had no issues with the brakes since that single event. Any suggestions on why the light is on and why the breaking issue? MAster cylinder? Thanks for all your help!

What the light does is let you know there is a code in the computer to tell you were to look! Have the codes read, with fords, fix lowest numbers first!
