My transmission is having trouble shifting in the lower gears. As it hesitates to shift in the lower gears the rmp rise to 3500 and as I first let off the gas pedal and then tap it, it will shift (as this happens the over drive light comes on and off very briefly). Is this a sensor problem and if so is it expensive?

It could be a shift solenoid. Since the light has come on, you may want to have the computer scanned. Most parts stores will do it for free.

If it is a shift solenoid, they are not too expensive.

LEt me know if you have other questions.
