While doing a brake job my son said something was loose. Helooked and found a large nnnut or bolt was loose which held the axel in, he put the tire back on and it would slide back n forth, he removed the tire again and tried to find a wrench large for the bolt bhead. Nothing would fit it now heres what threw me apparentaly this bolt had a nut on the back side that held it all together. Tightened with his fingers as much as possible.
what is the bolt and what does it do?

Thx men for a quick reply, I didnt see it because I am an old tired worn out vietnam veteran. I called around and found a friend who I know wont cheat me and he is a mechanis and gonna fix the car for her. I try to help her because she is on a fixed income which barely gets her by. Thx again for being so quick. Papa54
