My engine sounds horrible. When I accelerate its a very rough sound initially. I thought the engine was out of oil because I have gone longer than normal for a change and there seems to be a slight leak. Thsi morning the oil level guage was flat as if there was no oil in the car and the check gauge light was on. I went and put in 3 quarts of oil. At first the engine wouldn't start(when before it did). When it finally did its shakes horribly and now it stalls out and idles up and down( and still sounds very crunchy). The check engine light is on and the check gauge light and the oil gauge still flat. Did I put in too much oil. I tried to drive it, but it stalls when I stop and there is very little power or pick up. Thanks for the help

Where is the level of oil on the indicator stick?

IS there a knocking noise?

Need to remove the oil pressure sending unit and check the true oil pressure reading as the sender may not be reading correct. Alos need to retreive the codes from the engine.
