Is it possible for a coolant leak to be on the top of engine, more towards the back of engine. My mechanic says removal of intake manifold is necessary to find the source of the coolant leak. Is this a common problem with Ford or any other vehicle make?

Could be a leaky coolant hose. Or bad intake manifold gasket or a cracked manifold. Not really a common problem.

But some ford trucks get a leak and it leaks on the #7 coil back causing them to burn out. From a bad heater hose.
