2000 Ford Explorer how involved to change shocks

Can I change the shocks from underneath, orwill I need to go under the hood, and inside the cargo area

Do you have a strut model? If so you can take out the assembly but you wont be replacing the shock unless you have the proper tools and a spring compressor.

It unbolts from the top under the engine compartment, and under, BEHIND the tire.

No struts, it has shocks all around

Turn of air suspension switch, raise support vehicle and support lower control arm

then remove the upper shock nut wash and insulator then remove the lower retaining nuts, compress and remove it.
