How can I determine if my brake problem is the master cylinder or the brake boost when I have to
pump my brakes to get a full pedal and then the pedal fades almost to the floor.

Hi there,

this will not be the booster, it will be a hydraulic problem, if your car is rear drum brakes I would be checking that they are adjusted correctly, make sure that you have no fluid leaks in the system as it may be air trapped causing this, also you can clamp off the 3 flexi brake lines with brake like clamps and test the master cyl, if the pedal is high and hard the master will be OK, but if it falls away under light pedal pressure the master will be faulty, start here.
