I have been told that it would be 3 to 4 thousand dollars to repair a blown gasket head. Would it be easier/more economical to replace the engine. If not,
can I get anything for my explorer?

Thats nowhere near what is should cost to replace your vehicle's head gaskets. To replace both head gaskets on the V8 engine is only going to be around $600 in labor and about$50 for parts.
