Im looking at buying a 1998 explorer. It has a problem with going into drive, it starts fine. If you let the car idle and put it into drive it dies. However
if it is reved to around 2500 and poped into drive quick then it is fine. It has been diven like that 3 times in the last 2 months. Is this something easy? ICV? EGR? Something that way.

In my opinion, if it was an easy / cheap fix, the present owner would have fixed it to get the most money from the vehicle. However, that is only my opinion.

Now for the problem, is the check engine light staying on? Do you know if the fuel pump pressure been checked, EGR, TPS, or IAC? Also, when you get it to go, does it have normal power? Finally, when at a normal idle and you put it in gear, does it learch forward and then die?

Let me know.

I'm glad you got it fixed. I asked about the IAC which is the idle air control / basically the same as the ICV. Regardless, it sounds like you got a good deal.

Take care and let us know if you have other questions.
