1997 Ford Explorer 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a pushrod 4 cyl 97 Ford Explorer with 154,000 miles. It's got a rough idle and very sluggish acceleration. Replaced plugs and wires after I got a P0171 code on it, then drove it for a week and still got the same performance. Just got the P0171 code with the same misfires - 1, 3, and 6. Air filter's clean, no buildup in the intake manifold, no vacuum leaks that I can tell. Should I replace the coil? Any other ideas?

Here is a link explaining that code and goes through a diagnostic procedure.

Replacing an ignition coil is not going to solve this, you may have a dirty MAF sensor that needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Hope this helps.
