1993 Ford Explorer wont shift

Transmission problem
1993 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

we changed the tranny filter. Had to buy one for a 95 to match up to the old one. Thinking the part store told me to put in the wrong fluid. I always thought type "F" BUT they told me dec. When the truck is cold it doesnt wanna shift and when its warm, it shifts late.

You suppose to be using Mercon V type fluid

So if I drop the tranny pan and refill with mercon v will my truck shift right? And what happens with the wrong fluid in it?

If its not that late, replace it and see what happens
