1993 Ford Explorer running bad at times

I have a 93 explorer, at times you will be going down the road smoothly at speed limit. Then all of a sudden big power loss and almost stalling. And most times it wont do that. And it will have a stong smell to it. When I stop. All gauges read normal, heat, press, bat.

I would start by checking two things. First, it sounds like the catylatic converter may be plugging and causing a power loss and the smell. If it is good, you need to check the fuel pump pressure to see if it is low.
