Yes, this is an old Explorer. It is almost mint, and has had, at 310,000 a new engine installed. Recently I had the tranny rebuilt, and have had problems ever since. The shop can't seem to fix it. There are two things: One, during take-off, under full-throttle, the transmission starts in second gear. Let off just a little, and it drops in to first, but not before you have been beaned by the 18-wheeler bearing down on you.
Second, about 7 out of ten times, when put into park, the transmission is still partially engaged. Giving it gas causes the engine to fight the transmission, which is in park, but clearly engaged as well. RPMs don't reach above 1700. When I turn the engine off while the transmission is in park, I can feel the strain release from the transmission.
