Hi, I have a 1991 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 with 150,000 miles. I recently developed transmission trouble. What it does it when I put it into Drive or Reverse, the engine stalls out. When I leave it in Park and Neutral, the engine runs fine. What do you think is the problem. I have people telling me that the Transmission needs to be rebulit. I also have people telling me that the Torque Convertor needs to be replaced. I also have people telling me that the Torque Converter Lockup switch needs to be removed or replaced. Can you advise me what to do?

It could be the converter clutch solinoid, it's on the valve body inside the transmission, have a look at the electrical connections at the side of the tranny for corosion, clean them with electrical contact cleaner then put some dielectric grease in the connectors.
