I need to replace my spark plugs. But with so many out there I am not sure which ones to buy. My engine has some after market modifications(AEM brute force intake, Helix power tower throttle body spacer, JET MAF sensor, and a magna flow Xpipe with true duals). I dont know if I should go with a shorter plug because the air mixture has been altered or stay with factory size, also the motor does not have a distributor cap as such, I believe there is a "coil pack"attached to each plug. Can you help me in selecting an appropiate plug? I do also haul campers 16-28 ft. And snowbobile trailers. Im just looking for the best fit for my vehicle.

Sounds like factory is good for your vehicle. But what I put on my vehicles that I found working great are a type of platinum pulse plug, they are more expensive but man do you notice power.

Thats new information you did not state.

There is a gem module or bcm that may have bearing on this.

Either way, you will need a shop to confirm this as it would an expensive guess either way. Lets be sure.

Not the dealer but a good shop as the dealer will be the most expensive here.

Go back to your original post and there is a link for donations

CAN I REPLACE THE PLUGS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE FUEL RAIL? IF NOT, HOW DO I CORRECTLY REPLACE THE PLUGS.

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi:
You should be able to replace them without removing the fuel rail. The coil packs are quite flexable where they go into the head.

Let me know if you have trouble or questions.

Wish had good news but Mr. FORD kinda screwed up on that engine. The plug reach is very long and extends into combustion chamber thus threads become coated with carbon. Which results in broken plugs. A TSB was published on proceedure to remove plugs 1/4 to 1/2 turn spray Motocraft cleaner around plug screw back repeat, repeat, repeat till comes out or brakes. Bummer is need special tools /Tap to remove broken plug.I do not think tools are available from anyone but Ford tool maker rotunda. Short of pulling head and taking to machine shop or seeing if Ford dealer will loan tools.

They could be running too lean causing the overheating of the plugs. Get a shop to monitor fuel delivery and the injector on times as well as the short and long term trims.

I have a 2000 expedition 5.4 liter xlt 4wd w/ 130k miles. When I start up it knocks real bad for about 10-15 seconds then goes away, then it will start "clicking" under slight acceleration. I dont know if its an oiling problem or something internal that I cant fix.
I'm also having issues getting to the spark plugs in the rear of then engine they seem so far under the Firewall that the engine needs to be dropped but that seems excessive to change the Plugs. Obviuosly they are coil over plugs
