Hi my name is Justin and I am new to this site. I have a 1999 Ford Escort SE with approx 86,000 miles. I am having a problem with a loud noise coming from the exhaust. I am unable to call around to get prices to get it fixed because I havent a clue what the name of the part of the exhaust is. It is located about 1-2 feet from the manifold and has a flexible braided texture and is about a foot long. I know it is not the converter. Anyone have a clue what this part is called?

Front flex pipe! Yes that's it. You can pruchase universal aftemarket pipes the original equipment ones can be pretty pricey.
Exhaust work is a pisser unless you have the correct tools or the exact fit.

Noise never matters much. However, if it sounds like there is some knocking of components then it can be a serious one and should be checked before anything bad emerges. You also need to know that exhausts behave funnily with some engines so you should find out if at all they are compatible.
