I have a 97 ford escort but it has a 99 motor and transmission now. It suppose to only have 30,000 miles on it and it a 2.0 L automatic. The car is running good except it's not shifting into overdrive. The shifter wouldn't come out of park and the guy who fixed my car said there was a clip in the shifter that got stuck. Could the shifter have something to do with it not going into overdrive or am I gonna have to get another transmission? Please help.

If the shifter is adjusted properly so it is in the gear it says, then it wouldnt cause that.I would lean towards the wiring or the trans being a little different than the old one.

My wife has a 1992 ford escort that doesn't seem to be hitting the overdrive gear. When getting up over 35 mph the engine seems to be revving hgh and staying that way until you slow back down. It sounds like the engine is racing when you're heading on the highway. I'm not sure if the transmission needs to be replaced or if there is a sensor somewhere that needs to be replaced. If you go about 45 mph then lay off the gas, it will rapidly slow down til about 35 mph, then it will act normal. I have already change the transmission fluid and the filter but there are no changes. It's eating a hole in my pocket from the gas that gets used up in the process. I'm a probey mechanic so I don't know a whole lot and I don't have the money to throw it in the shop. Can anybody help me with this problem?
