Hi, Ford Escort 96,000 miles.

After starting and then moving off the engine continues to idle after foot is removed from the accelerator.

This happens especially when driving down the motorway so like having cruise control!

1998 1.6i

Any thoughts

Thanks

Very confusing what you have stated, but are you saying that the vehicle does not drop in engine speed when you let off the footfeed? If so, when the engine is off, try rotating the throttle cam and see if it moves freely. Then press the foot pedal and determine if the cable is sticking. If so, I would possibly try lube, but do a close examination and consider replacing the accelerator cable.

Hi,

It over idles for a while when you come to a stop and then drops back to normal. So when I stop for example at the end of the motorway, the engine is still revving whilst i'm stationary and then returns to normal after 10 secs say.

My concern is that i'm getting through fuel quickly and I drive a long journey every day as it is.

Thanks

Darren
