Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Ford Escort 4 cyl Automatic 84k miles

A few weeks ago driving on the highway my car suddenly acted as if it were not getting gas. It recovered quickly, but this problem has started to happen more often. It will slow to idle, and pressing on the gas usually has no effect. Sometimes it will cause the car to lurch forward a number of times. I have to pull over and wait a bit for it to catch again. Now I am having trouble starting it in the morning. I have replaced the fuel filter and pcv valve. What is next, the fuel pump? Where is this located?

No check engine light. Can I access the fuel pump easily? As in, is there an access panel under the back seat or in the trunk?
