1999 Ford Escort speed sensor

I need info regarding replacing the speed sensor. The speedometer and odometer are not working and I was told that there is no cable, only a sensor on top of the transmission. Is this a repair that I can do myself?

Ok, I believe what you are needing is the Turbine Speed Sensor. Is the Sub Model a ZX2 if so the Ford Number is F7CZ 17271 AA you can call your local parts store give them that part # and they can crossreference it to there number. You should be able to change yourself.
