I have a 1999 ford escort, checked all the fluids before making a long trip to the airport and back to pick up some family members. On the return trip the car started making a rattling noise when I would put pressure on the gas pedal. With in about twenty miles of home the car started to run hot, I was crossing a bridge at the time so I continued driving, the heater on full blast started blowing cold air. Immediately after exiting the bridge the car shut off. I coasted down the hill and pulled the car off the road, smoke was rolling out from under the hood. I allowed the car to cool then popped the hood. The oil was really low. I left the car sit overnight then returned the next day and changed the oil, air filter, and oil filter. Checked the radiator fluid, still full. Car cranks but wont start.

OK it sounds like the car got hot and it may have done some damage. What I need you to do is check to see if there is spark. If there is spark then check to see if there is fuel. If it also has fuel then I recommend a compression test.
