I HAVE A 1998 FORD ESCORT ZX2.
THE ENGINE OVERHEATED, THEREFORE THE HEAD GOT REBUILT AND A NEW HEAD GASKET WAS INSTALLED.

NOW I'M HAVING THE PROBLEM WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR, EVERY NOW AND THEN THE ENGINE LOSES ALL POWER, THE RPM DROPS FROM 5000 TO 0, AND THE CAR SHAKES A LOT. THEN SUDDENLY THE POWER IS RESTORED.
THE MORE I DRIVE IT, WITH TIME IT GETS WORST, IN THE SENSE IT DOES IT MORE OFTEN.

I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.

A DIAGNOSTIC TURNS UP THE CODE
300,301,302 AND 303. IV'E LOOKED
UP THESE CODES AND THEY INDICATE

P0300 Random Misfire Detected
P0301 Cylinder #1 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder #2 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder #3 Misfire Detected

WHAT COULD BE MY PROBLEM, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, IS THERE A SOLUTION, PLEASE HELP ME.

Misfires can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

A P0300 code usually indicates a vacuum leak or bad gas.

A misfire in a specific cylinder should lead you to check the spark plug, fuel injector and compression.
