HUB/STEERING KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY
Removal
Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel, brake caliper and rotor. Raise staked portion of front axle wheel hub nut. Remove nut securing drive axle shaft to hub. Remove outer tie rod end cotter pin and nut. Using Tie Rod End Separator (T85M-3395-A), remove tie rod end.
If equipped, remove anti-lock brake wire bracket bolt and bracket. Remove bolts and anti-lock brake sensor, and position aside. Remove lower control arm nut and pinch bolt. Separate lower control arm from steering knuckle. Remove strut assembly-to-steering knuckle nuts and bolts. Remove steering knuckle.
Disassembly & Reassembly
Remove oil seal from rear of hub/steering knuckle assembly. Using Bearing Pulling Attachment (D84L-1123-A) or bearing remover, position hub/steering knuckle assembly on a press. Press hub out of wheel bearing in steering knuckle.
Remove "E" clip that retains wheel bearing in steering knuckle. Position steering knuckle onto press. Using a bearing remover, press bearing out of steering knuckle. If removing dust shield, scribe mark on dust shield and steering knuckle. Using a chisel, remove dust shield.
To reassemble, reverse disassembly procedure. If dust shield is being reused, ensure scribed marks on dust shield and steering knuckle are aligned. If dust shield is bent, cracked or damaged, replace dust shield. Install NEW inner oil seal. Apply Threadlock 262 or equivalent to front wheel bearing outer race.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW cotter pin and nuts and bolts. Apply Threadlock 262 or equivalent to lower ball joint nut and pinch bolt threads. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
