1998 Ford Escort car keeps dying

I have reaplaced the battery and alternator in my car. The last thing that was replaced was the alternator the second time and it ran for about two weeks and died again. When I started the car for the las time the gear would not come out of park.I do not know much about cars :(

If the battery is dead, then the park lock solenoid will not work. If the battery is good, check to see if the brake lights are working and let me know what you find.
