1998 Ford Escort brake lights

My brake lights wont turn off, I removed the switch on the brake pedal, and replaced it but they still stay on

Check that it is adjusted correctly, is there power flowing through the switch with the pedal up? Un plug the out down side of the plug( wire going to lights) check that there is no back feed down this wire) start here,
