1997 Ford Escort starter

Sometimes I have to hold the key in the srart position for a minute, on other occasions 2 and maybe 3 minutes before it cranks up. Most of the times she'll crank up with no delay.

Double check battery condition and connections if okay-start by doing a starter current draw test, test the starter relay, transmission range switch and ignition switch.

Disregard the starter relay and check the inhibitor relay behind left side of instrument panel and transmission range sensoe/ switch is at the left side of engine on top of transmission
