1997 Ford Escort revs

The rev counter goes up when in park or neutral and when driving seems like something is stuck and doesn't decrease in speed when I take foot of excelerator cable. I don't think is the cable could it be something else.

Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and test the throttle position and mass airflow sensors

You will need a repair manual to test it and also locate these components
