My 96 ford escort with 137,000 miles was working fine on thursday but friday morning I went to start it and it trys to turn over but sounds like its not getting any gas. Should I try to replace the fuel fillter before I replace the pump or is there away to tell if the pump is working?

Hi to check if your pump is working there is 2 options 1st as you turn on your ignition you should hear the pump building pressure then shuts off if not its not energizing. 2nd the fuel rail has a valve for a pressure guage you could gently push the valve in and see if fuel comes out an if it is under pressure when it does.
