1995 Ford Escort wont stay running

My battery died and now even if I jump start it and keep the cables on the battery for a while, once they are taken off the engine dies again after a few seconds

Sounds like the battery may be toast. Take it in and have it tested. If bad replace. With car running how many volts are showing on the battery. And when car dies how many volts it show is running?

Make sure connections are tight and corrosion free
