Air Conditioning problem
1995 Ford Escort 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My daughter drives a 95 Ford Escort LX and a couple of weeks ago I noticed damage to the protective cover on the underside of the car where the air conditioner is located but there was no visible damage. Now the electronic pulley will engage & disengage repeatedly when the air conditioner is turned on or off. When the air is turned on it will blow cold air for about two minutes with the pulley engaged properly, then the pulley starts engaging & disengaging. I bought a new clutch pulley but, the instructions said rarely does a pulley just go bad, & you should make sure there isn't a problem with the compressor, or a electrical problem. What would you suggest I try next?

Hi, Look For The Low side Switch, This Controls The compressor, It's Near The Firewall, Usually on The drier or on the low side hose. It has two wires on it. Disconnect it. Take a jumper wire, go across both wires at the connector, and see if the compressor runs and stays on now. If so, That switch could be bad or car is low on freon, if it makes no difference with the switch jumped, and the compressor still cuts out, one, it could be a bad compressor clutch, or something bad in compressor itself.

Hope This Helps You,
Good Luck
