The timing belt broke on my 1993 ford escort with a 1.9 motor and 280000 miles on it. I replaced the timing belt and water pump. When I started it ran fine but after it warmed up the motor started ticking and running really bad mostly upon acceleration. The 1.9 is suppose to be a non interference motor but it sounds like I have a bent valve. Is this possible and if not what may the problem be. Please help.

It's an interference free engine and valves should be OK
Check timing marks and check oil and oil pressure

Found out what the problem was. I had taken the plugs out when I changed the timing belt. The boot on one of the spark plug wires had cracked and the spark was arching to the head. Changed wire and the car runs fine. Thanks for your input.
