my 1.8 escort wont tick over unless held at 2 thousand rpm but drives fine when running help please

Either the air vane sensor (mass air flow) is not adjusted properly or faulty, or you have a vacuum leak. My 92 did the same thing, and I found a broken vacuum T-valve underneath the intake manifold, close to the alternator.
