Electrical problem
1989 Ford Escort 4 cyl Manual 88108 miles

I have an 1989 1.9L HO ford escort gt and I cannot locate my starting problem. Once started runs and drives perfectly but my ignition coil doesnt get spark all the time sometimes it starts sometimes it doesnt, my clutch engages good my fuel pump is heard and starter motor is working, I bought a new coil and installed it it worked a couple times just fine then I resulted back to the intermittent starting problem please help me if anyone knows if its a coil wire, distributor, ignition, ignition switch, coil, stator, ecm, or resistor/fusible link problem its driving me crazy please help

Connect spark tester between ignition coil wire and engine ground.
Crank engine while checking for spark at the tester.
If spark occurs inspect distributor cap and rotor for damage or carbon
if no spark test the TFI module
and replace if failed
