2004 Ford Escape Engine has mind of it's own

2004 Ford Escape Four Wheel Drive Automatic 80000 miles

Yesterday it was having a hard time starting so I had to give it some extra gas to start. Ever since then it has a mind of it's own. It takes off and speeds up without me even stepping on the gas. I have to ride the brake just to hold it back.

Also, when I'm at a stoplight it jerks and if I put it in park it sounds terrible and the RPM goes up.

What's going on?

Sounds like my wife. She definitely has a mind of her own.
As for the car, id like to know if it has thrown a code.
I think id try resetting the computer but you could also be having a TPS problem.
