I just noticed a grinding sound on my 2003 Ford Escape. The sound started out occuring when the brakes were applied and the vehicle was turning to the right. Recently it grew worse to were it happens whenever the brakes are applied. I didn't hear any squeaking indicating the brake pads needed to be replaced and there is no change in the stopping ability. I also visually checked the brake pads without removing the tires both of which seem fine. Just wondering what the noise is and how I can stop it. Thanks!

Hi shawnb3185. Welcome to the forum. It's time for a complete brake inspection. Not all pads have audible wear indicators, and you might not be able to see both the inner and outer pad unless you remove each wheel. It is also somewhat common for pads to wear unevenly. You might see a part that has some lining left, but typically the leading edge wears faster. The leading edge is the end of the lining the rotor contacts first. It is often hidden under the caliper. Instead of trying to see the linings, look for a band of rough area on the rotor surfaces.
