Luckily I see I can replace the heater core from the passenger interior side of the van without removing to many things. What I can't seem to figure out is how to disconnect the hoses from the heater core. My Chiton's manual indicates I need to use tool T85T-18539-AH to remove the hoses. What exactly does the tool do and is it possible for me to make the repair without the tool?

Hello and thanks for the donation!

You will indeed need to use the special service tool T85T-18539-AH to disengage the heater hoses. This tool is a quick disconnect tool, similar to those used for some fuel lines. It releases the quick connects on the heater hose ends to allow you to slide the hose off. There is no other way to remove the hose without causing damage.
