Air Conditioning problem
1999 Ford Crown Victoria V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

We started to notice a strange smell coming from the vents inside the car. It was suggested that we might have a leak, we were running the air conditioner - auto setting almost matched outside temp erature approximately 73 degrees. Have driven it and now noticing a leak under the passenger side that appears to be oil. Checking all fluid levels - everything seems to be okay. Ran the car again only when the air conditioner is running is there a leak. What could be the problem? Dearler not able to take it in - we live in Arizona and I guess there are a number of problems with ac's right now. Please help. Thanks

It could be the oil in the a/c system, your evaperator core could have a leak, or it could be water from condensate that runs out of the a/c drain, you sure it's oil? Any coloring to it? Put your finger in it and see what it is.

Could it be rusty water, or is it definatley oil? A/C oil is clear in color but with the finger you can feel oil.

If it was leaking oil that badly, the A/C compressor will not run, your refrigerant charge is gone! Try turning it on, does the compressor run? If not, you may need some A/C parts replacement, check the firewall where the a/c goes in at the passenger side, feel the bottom of the plenum, is it wet with this oil?
