We have a 1996 Crown Vic Police Interceptor and 4.6 motor. Trouble free car until other day. Went to start it and the motor made a bang sound. Car still starts everytime but I only run it for a few seconds so not to cause more damage.

Now the motor knocks (rattles) badly all the time. Appears noise is internal and loudest on drivers side of motor near top front.

Any chance this is something simple, like bad coil or water in the spark plug area? Any ideas are appreciated. :)

When it's running is the oil light on? Check oil level, however it's too late the damage too the connecting rod bearing or wrist pin seems to be done. When I was a teen I drove a ford that way for some time!
