Over drive light flashing

1997 ford contour 4 cyl 185000 kms. I am a newbie here and I am sure question has been asked before is there a simple solution to prob. With 97 contour o/d light flashing and transmission shifts hard(i have to let off gas pedel to shift to next gear it is a auto transmission! Any help appriciated

If the od light is flashing, it usually indicates there's an issue within the trans. Take it to a locally owned reliable trans shop for diagnosis, they'll be able to scan it for any codes.
