1997 Ford Contour LX 5 Speed. 2.5L V6. 120,000 miles. When I attempted to start my car yesterday I got nothing. Just the sound of something clicking on and off and a little stream of smoke comming from my positive battery cable (general area) I tried to jump start the car and still nothing, then I used a voltmeter and got a 12.6 reading. After examaning the wires from the positive terminal the look very corroed, and the battery was extremely hot. I noticed no warning signs of an electrical problem before this. I have however experienced the high pitched whining nosie when driving in hot weather that other people have experienced, causing the car to stall when it stops, as well as the grinding noise comming from the wheel well especially when turning right, but neither of these appear to be related to me.

No it does not come on, I tried that and the left fan does not engage, I don't think its a fuse cause one fuse controls both fans and the one on the right comes on. My guess is that the one on the left is the one thats supposed to come on when it gets to hot. So to me anyway, that would leave the tempature sensor, or the fan motor, or the relay. Am I missing anything?
