1998 Ford Contour Car will go in reverse but not forward

The car was idling at a fast food place 2 days ago. When I went to push the gas, it was like it was in neutral. I switched to 1st gear and back to drive, and it worked. Yesterday, driving in town, I stopped at a corner, and it would not go forward. It will go in reverse, but all forward gears will not work. We have not changed the tranny fluid in a couple of years, but other than that don't know if the tranny is totally shot or a clogged filter.

If Car moves in reverse it would not be a plugged filter If filter is plugged it would restrict fluid pressure in all ranges. Check fluid for color and smell if it has a burnt odor and dark color other than like red cool aid it is most likely a internal problem. Which would require a professional to Repair.
