I ran codes on this car and it came back as "speed sensor a malfunction". I called Oreillys and they ordered a part and when it came in today it was a small computer chip. Is this the right part and if so, where does it go?

Thank you for your time

Hello aabcd2395

Vehicle Speed Sensor
Behind dash
Mounted on transmission

Does it look like this?
Do you have the code written?

Hello aabcd2395

PO500 and P1744 are related and p1744 could causes p0500 to be set.
The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back
Intermittent VSS connection (loose)
Intermittent open in VSS harness circuit
Intermittent short in VSS harness circuit or the VSS is damage and need to be replaced.
Vehicle Speed Sensor
Behind dash
Mounted on transmission

P0744 could be due to a bad torque converter, a bad lock up solenoid, or a bad lock up control unit. Lock up solenoid, it's just part of the transmission valve body and not replaceable separately
