my speed odometer needle began to float on its own, now im not able to see how fast I am actually going. Is this a problem with the speed odometer cable or sensor?

The speedometer is connected to the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).. check the wiring or replace VSS

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) (2.0L)On lower rear of transaxle.
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) (2.5L)On lower rear of transaxle. See Fig. 2 .
