96 Ford Bronco problems shifting / fuel gauge

I have a 96 ford bronco eddie bauer 151000 miles 5.8 litre. I have 2 problems with this truck now as of late it has begun to shift somewhat less smoothly than it did when it was new and the other is my fuel gauge no longer functions at all. Where do I start to get this fixed?

If you haven't fixed this problem with your fuel guage? Then one possible problem may be the fuel sending unit in the tank. Unplug the wiring harness to the sending unit on top of the tank and if the fuel gauge goes to full, then it's possible. Not sure about the other one. I have the same issue with a fuel guage.
