The upper radiator hose bust, leaving about a 6inch "wound" in the hose. What would have caused such an explosive rupture? Is THAT much pressure normal? Will replacing the hose solve my problem, or is the same thing going to happen to my new hose?

Hi:
It is normal for pressure to build in the cooling system. However, you may want to have the radiator cap tested to make sure it releases pressure when it should. If it is good (or you replace it. They are cheap) you should have no problem with the new hose.

Was the one that broke original?
