I just recently bought a 1990 Aerostar XL it drives fine, but will not shift into reverse. Does this mean I need a new transmission or is there an adjustment I can make to the trasmission. Someone told me there are some cables that I might be able to adjust to get the reverse to work.

Well the transmission has what we call internal clutches that operate the gears one of the clutches have what you would call a reverse belt. This belt may be worn (burned up) due to years of ware and tare it is possible to adjust but unless your a skilled automatic trans technician I would not recommend it. For the home mechanic. If you can find a resonable transmission shop were they are also honest it would be a good Idea to have them diagnos the trans for ware and tare.

May run ya $40 bucks to diagnose.
