Hello!

We recently purchased this car used (March). Sadly we’ve had nothing but issues so far :( our latest is the gas leak from the passenger side rear end, we’ve replaced the solenoid in the front of the car, we were told it was also part of EVAP system. Was hoping that would help. But the car continues to leak, so we’ve completely taken the EVAP system off the car in the back EVAP charcoal canister. Upon taking this off charcoal pellets and has started spilling out on the ground, from what I’m reading this means the canister is bad and should be replaced? My question is there a way to fix the canister instead of buying a new one ($700.00)? My friend suggest emptying out the canisters insides and reattaching it. But would that work? Any advice on how to check the hoses for clogs, some say not to use an air compressor? What would be another good option? And lastly, I’m worried that all this stuff happening with the car but we haven’t had check engine light come on not once, is that normal? Thank you!

Unfortunately, there is no way to effectively repair the canisters. They are to be a sealed component that only holds fuel vapor and not raw fuel. It then releases this vapor into the intake manifold to assist with reducing emissions. Also, they should not leak anything, fuel, vapor, or the charcoal itself.

As for the lines, you can use compressed air to blow them out if you disconnect all the components so that you are just blowing air through the lines only. However this should not be needed because if there is fuel in the lines, it will evaporate quickly.

I am sorry you are having so many issues. It sounds like this may be the reason this person sold the car. However, the check engine light not coming on is not that odd. The system just monitors the system and it may still be functioning but it just has these leaks and unfortunately it doesn't monitor for those types of issues. Additionally, there is no way that I know of that they can disable the "check engine light" and the monitoring systems.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks
