My truck tries to start, but does not start. I installed a new fuel pump (in tank), checked plugs, checked all "firing" items. I would like to know if a bad oil pump will prevent it from starting. I was told that could be a safety device. I would like to know before purchasing and installing a new oil pump. Thank you.

That engine should not have an oil pressure fail safe. I just tested the oil pressure on a 2005 6.0L Cadillac Escalade and it still started and ran with no oil pressure feedback just fine. Have you checked for codes yet? Also, does it have spark and the correct fuel pressure? You checked both of those?

I checked the fuel pressure; it is good 56 pounds of pressure. I am going to replace the ignition module next, I guess. I have not used an analyzer yet for codes; I plan to do that within the next couple of days. Will keep you posted. Thanks for your input.

My husband has purchased the crank angle sensor but has not installed it yet. After he read the installation instructions, he said that is the same thing I have bought already and has not installed yet. Great minds think alike! We will let you know what happens after he gets it installed. Thanks!

My husband has installed the crank angle sensor BUT he has not attempted to start truck because the instructions that came with the sensor days this sensor requires a "crank relearn" procedure which requires a scan tool capable of this function. He does not have one of these scan tools, which he understands is expensive. Do you think it would be OK to try to start it without doing this procedure or should he not chance it?

You can start it up right now they just want you to have the new sensor relearned. From the vechiles I have changed the sensors on I haven't really ran into any issues from not relearning the sensor. Only when reprogramming the engine computer then I really had to learn it or it would set a code in the computer.

Well, my husband bought a new starter and installed it today and then tried starting the truck. Nothing happened at all ! Didn't even try to hit. So, guess he will have to get a tester or get someone to bring one here to see what it might show. Do u have any other suggestions?

No, it wasn't cranking; it was trying to crank or "hitting", as he calls it, now and again. But it never actually cranked. He is thinking it might be in computer since he has replaced all those other things. Got to get the testing taken care of; will let u know.

You originally said it was trying to start to me means it's cranking over. So have you tested the battery cables corrison on the cables made sure the cables were tight etc?Do all the dash lights come on the dash when turning the key on?
