I own the truck listed above with a7.3 idi with banks sidewinder turbo on it. I just replaced all the injectors and glow plugs, injection pump, return lines, glow plug, and solenoid. The truck won't crank until I hit the with a quick shot of either. It will then crank and run like a champ. What would be causing this problem?

More than likely you have a fuel pump issue, so we need to check the pressure and the volume.

Basically, diesel engines that do not start are either due to being cold or you don't have enough fuel.

So, I am attaching the info below on how to do the pressure and flow test from the manual.

However, if you are adding ether and it starts and then runs great, the injection pump is most likely helping the pump supply the needed fuel.

So, if it were me, I would be looking to put a fuel pump on this as well.

Clearly, we need to confirm this with this testing below.

Let me know what you find, and we can go from there.

Thanks

Okay. That is great. It is less likely to be the cause but clearly the engine needs to be a certain temperature in order to get the fuel to combust so let us know what happens. Thanks
